HPD arrests man for controlled substance

Hartselle Police Department arrested James A. Bloodworth III, 27, of Decatur, Ga., Sept. 14 for possession of a controlled substance.

According to a Facebook post by the department, Bloodworth attempted to fill a forged prescription at Gilchrist Pharmacy. Officers responded to the call, but Bloodworth attempted to drive away from the scene, striking another vehicle in the process.

As the chase continued, Bloodworth lost control of his vehicle and wrecked in the area of North Sparkman Street and Highway 31.

According to the post, Bloodworth’s vehicle flipped, but he fled on foot. Officers apprehended him in the parking lot of Hartselle Urgent Care.

The post states the vehicle had 1550 dosage units of codeine cough syrup, purchased at pharmacies from Warrior to Hartselle. Officers also located an envelope of forged prescriptions and blank prescription sheets.

Bloodworth was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and received a $15,000s bond.
