A pancake breakfast, 5-K run, live stage music, handicraft exhibits and a free kids play area are among the fun-filled, family-oriented events planned for the 7th annual Somerville Cele-bration Festival on Saturday, May 14, from 7 a.m., to 2 p.m.
A all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, featuring homemade pancakes, syrup, sausage and a choice of orange juice or coffee, will be served in the historic old courthouse.
Serving hours will be from 7 to 10 a.m.
A 5K Courthouse Run will be kicked off at 8 a.m. followed by a one-mile run for kids.
Many other festival events will start at the same time. They will include an antique car and tractor show, live stage entertainment, free rides and games for kids and food and crafts vendors.
Stage performers are scheduled as follows: 9 to 9:30, Jerry Grantland and Rick Sharp;  9:30 to 10, Alaina Wiley, 10 to 10:45, Taylor McClain; 10:45 to noon, Glenn Wood and Cross Cut Band with a line dancing demonstration; 12:15 to 1 p.m., Plus 1; and 1:10 to 2 p.m., Leslie Scott.
A free Kids Zone, featuring a variety of inflatable rides, face painting and pony rides, will be sponsored by Somerville Baptist Church.
Foods and crafts vendors will be located around the courthouse square. Spaces are still available and may be purchased by calling Town Hall at 256-778-8292.
Friends of the Library will host a Used Book Sale in conjunction with the festival. Hours will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A new attraction involving the old courthouse grounds is landscaping. It was recently completed by Childers’ Landscaping with funding provided by a Community Service Grant, which was acquired with the help of State Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur. The project included the planting of trees, shrubs and flowering plants. Some of the additions are Little Gem Magnolias, camellias, boxwoods, Leatherleaf Holly and Knockout roses.
