Friday was a special day for officers with the Hartselle Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. Several representatives from both law enforcement agencies helped raise money and awareness for Morgan County Special Olympics through the annual Cops on Top event held at the Hartselle Walmart.

The day began with the torch run at 8:30 a.m., starting from the American Legion building in Hartselle and ending at the day’s destination. Mike Swafford, who serves as the public information officer for the MCSO, said Walmart provided the set-up space at no cost and donated free food for the entirety of the event.

An inflatable bounce house for the children, a dunk tank, Torch Run T-shirts and hotdogs were all a part of the fun during the all-day event. Officers took turns being hoisted above their peers and Walmart shoppers in a bucket truck to raise awareness of the Special Olympics programs in Morgan County.

The goal for the day was $5,000, and Swafford said the Cops on Top raised a total of $5,598 that will help the Morgan County Special Olympics continue its programs.
