The Lions Club of Falkville will celebrate its 70th anniversary later this year. Club officers and others are searching for charter member descendants” to attend the event. There were 27 charter members in 1949. For more information, contact Terry Napier or Arthur Ray Summerford.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church Activities

March 31 at 6 p.m. Mt. Zion Church members hosted the Singspiration conducted by music director Dr. Jerome Ward. The Mt. Zion Choir sang first, and a family friend of Dr. Ward, David Wood from the Cowboy No Fences Church at Massey, sang also. Other churches participating were Southwest Baptist Church, Round Top Community Church, Piney Grove Christian Church, Victory Fellowship Church, First Baptist of Falkville, New Life-God’s Church and First Faith Church.

The next fifth Sunday singing will be held June 30 at 6 p.m., and the host church will be announced at a later date.
March 31, Gideon speaker Reuben Williams from the First Baptist Church in Cullman led the morning worship service at Mt. Zion Church.

Falkville Public Library Activities

Jenny Asherbranner, librarian at the Falkville Public Library, welcomes patrons searching for family, church, community, school, town and city information, as well as bicentennial event suggestions. The Morgan County Heritage Book is an excellent source and is a library reference book. Additionally, Rhona Summerford’s book on the history of Falkville is on sale for $30, and the Heritage book sells for $60.

Jenny is working on the Summer Reading Program: Universal Stories for Thursdays in July and an Open House commemorating 26 years of library service to the area.
Falkville was incorporated in 1886, and the first mayor was Rufus A. Summerford in 1914. The Town Hall staff, Mayor Winkles and the town council will be planning some bicentennial events and the fall festival.

Shoal Creek Baptist Church Events

A Glow In The Dark Egg Hunt is open to the region at Shoal Creek Baptist Church on Shoal Creek Road near Highway 67 – turn left at Libby’s Restaurant. The event begins at 7 p.m. on Good Friday, April 19. There will be prizes and refreshments, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Refresh and Retreat Conference Activities

Carolyn Besnyl of Massey attended the Refresh and Retreat United Methodist Women’s Conference at Camp Sumatanga near Oneonta March 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. She represented Salem’s United Methodist Women. The United Methodist Women president, Olenc McGowen, conducted the meeting and presentation of the speakers and the videos.

The women’s groups are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the women’s movement.
Jenny Turney from Forest Chapel United Methodist Church also attended and took materials to decorate a table about the anniversary. Some units brought videos of their activities, and they were shown to the group.
Falkville High School Class of 1957 Events
The Falkville High School Class of 1957 met March 26 for its quarterly luncheon at Oh! Bryan’s steak house in Hartselle. Eddie Higdon was in charge of publicity and communications for the group.
Falkville High School Class of 1952 News
The Falkville High School Class of 1952 met March 23 at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast at Libby’s on Priceville Mountain. Howard Gibson, class leader for the monthly breakfast and reunions, announced that he will be moving to Texas to be near his grandson Patrick. Howard will be missed, and the class appreciates his leadership and keeping the class together.
Mt. Zion Baptist Church Activities
Kim Hall and Helen Ferguson, the children’s leaders at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, are directing the children’s Easter week activities. April 14 during the morning worship service at 11 a.m., the children will conduct the Palm Sunday program. Their Easter Sunday activities will be announced later.

Priceville High School to host district-wide play

The district-wide play, “Bye Bye Birdie,” will be staged April 12-13 at Priceville High School in the auxiliary gym. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. both nights. Tickets will be sold at the door, and the price will be $7. Everyone is welcome to attend.
