Bo Culver announced as new Tiger head coach

There’s a new man at the helm of the Tiger football program. The Hartselle City School board unanimously voted to hire Deshler High School’s Bo Culver to replace longtime head coach Bob Godsey who resigned Feb. 22.

A native of Hatton, Ala., Culver said he is blessed to be a part of the Hartselle family.

“This is a fantastic place, a fantastic program that’s known not only for great athletics but a high, high level of academics,” Culver said.

“The great tradition athletically but also the balance between that and the way you guys perform just through the entire school system … that speaks volumes of this community. We are beyond excited and blessed and can’t wait to get started.”

Hartselle superintendent Dr. Dee Dee Jones said she thinks Culver will do a great job in his new position. “He has a great work ethic and I think you guys are going to love working out for him,” Jones said to the crowd. His passion is so contagious. I’m excited to see what he brings to the community. He loves people and he loves working with students.”

Culver will become only the sixth head coach the Tigers have seen since the 1950s. He joins the likes of J.P. Cain, Bucky Pitts, Don Woods, Mike Smith and Bob Godsey who have all led the Tiger program.

Culver began his coaching career in Franklin County in 2009 at Phil Campbell High School. He held positions at Haleyville and Florence before beginning his two-year stint at Deshler in 2017 where he led them all the way to the 4A state championship game before falling to UMS-Wright Prep last season.

Culver has been married to his wife, Brooke, for more than 10 years and they have two children, Blakley and Roman.
