Jackson signs to play softball with the University of Mobile

Mackenzie Jackson signed to play with the University of Mobile Nov. 28. Jackson will be playing first base for the Rams in the 2019 season.

Jackson has played softball since she was six years old, and said she is excited for the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. “I am very grateful and  thankful and just surprised that this day is already here,” Jackson said.

According to Jackson, her career in softball began when her dad gave her a bat. “My dad gave me a bat and I said I think you have gave this to the wrong person, I want to dance, but I ended up loving it,” Jackson said.

Jackson will be pursuing a degree in pre-physical therapy. She says her time at Hartselle has helped prepare her to achieve her goals. “Academically I have taken AP classes, so my teachers have made sure we are one step ahead. As far as softball goes, we are blessed to have not only softball, but life skills to help prepare for the future,” Jackson said.

Christy Ferguson is the head softball coach at Hartselle High School, and says that Jackson will be missed. “We are going to miss her power. She is a power hitter and we always say she is a kid with power. Her presence will be missed, but it will be a great addition for the University of Mobile,” Ferguson said.

According to Ferguson, Jackson is dedicated team member and is always working to better herself. “Two words that I think of when I hear the name Mackenzie Jackson is hard work. She works hard to be the best that she can be,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson says that she known Jackson for many years now and has watched her grow as a person and a player. “I have watched her grow from a timid, trying to feel her way around junior high athlete to a strong and confident high school athlete,” Ferguson said.
