Relay for Life set for Friday

Hartselle’s Relay for Life is ahead of schedule for 2011.

Relay chairwoman Tresa McGhee said they are in good shape and should make their goal of $128,000.

“Fundraising has been outstanding this year,” McGhee said. “I believe we’ll be able to make or exceed our goal this year.”

The action begins tonight (April 28) with Bank Night. This is when most of the teams will turn in the majority of the money. However, more money will be raised during the event Friday, which begins at 6 p.m. and will last until 6 p.m. at J.P. Cain Stadium.

McGhee said she’s hoping for a great crowd.

The theme of this year’s Relay is Toonin’ Out Cancer. McGhee said they will even have a number of people dressed a superheroes show up for the event.

The event will begin with the opening ceremonies followed by the Survivors Lap. After dark, they will have a luminaries ceremony that will honor lost loved ones who died from cancer.

For more information, please call McGhee at 256-476-3905 or log on to acsevents.org and search for Hartselle Relay for Life.
