Softball for all

The Hartselle Parks and Recreation Department will have open registration for co-ed and men’s adult softball league through the rest of this month.

Registration can be completed at the Sparkman Civic Center. Cost is $450 for each team to register.

Heather Hemming with Parks and Recreation oversees the adult softball league, and she said it is a fun way to get involved in the community.

“It is a fun league. It of course can get competitive, but we just go out to have fun,” Hemming said. “We have several church teams on the league, as well as others from the community. We are not looking for all-star teams.”

Registration will close at the end of July, and games will begin in the middle of August. Co-ed teams will play on Mondays, and men’s teams will play on Tuesdays. All games will take place at the Grady and Margie Long Complex.

Hemming said the number of games will depend on the number of teams that register, but typically there are around six.

To register to play, teams need to have a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 20 players. All players must be 18 years or older.

To have a co-ed team, a team must have three women and seven men minimum.

All teams also provide their own equipment.

“The purpose with any of our Parks and Recreation events is to give the community something to do in the community. This gives them the chance to not only be physically active but civically active as well,” Hemming said.
