Polly Holmes – Oct. 9, 2017

Funeral service for Polly Holmes, 90, was Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church with Dr. John Russell officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Falkville City Cemetery. Visitation was Oct. 10 from noon to 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church.

Mrs. Holmes passed away Oct. 9 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born March 23, 1927, in Morgan County to William Hobson (Buster) Winkles and Claudia Alldredge Winkles. She was employed by Methodist Homes for the Aging, working for Senior Housing Management prior to retirement. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Family members that preceded her in death include her husband William Ernie Holmes, her parents, a brother Robert “Bob” Winkles and a sister-in-law Nina Winkles.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Ernie Holmes (Rosetta H. Holmes), Alabaster, and

William Randall Holmes (Kathy Morris Holmes), Madison; one daughter, Ann Holmes Vest (Vance Vest), Falkville; three sisters, Sarah L. Light, Birmingham, Jean McCaig, Falkville, and Gayle O’Hara, Falkville; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Vest, Casey Vest, Alex Vest, Austin Teague and Justin Holmes.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Falkville First United Methodist Church at 253 East Main Street, Falkville, AL 35622.
