“How long wilt though forget me, O Lord? Forever? How long wilt thou hide thou face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me. Consider and hear me, O Lord my God; lighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me,” Psalm 13:1-6.

In these scriptures we find how distressed that David was. We see where the phrase “how long” appears four times. David is expressing his feelings to God in hopes of finding strength. David felt that God was too slow in sending relief from his despair. We sometimes find ourselves thinking the same thing. David was a faithful man but just like us, he felt pressure of the problems he was facing. We must be like David and hold onto our faith during times of despair. If you will notice by the end of his prayer, David was able to express his hope and trust in God. Through our prayers we can express our feelings like David and talk to Him about our problems. When you feel impatient and think that God doesn’t answer you immediately, just remember David’s steadfast faith in God’s unfailing, never ending mercy!
