AREA CHURCHES TO HOLD DECORATION DAY IN MAY

Many area churches will hold their Decoration Day activities during the month of May including the following, Round Top Community Church Cemetery on Sun., May 7 with morning worship service and lunch in the Family Life Center; Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery on Sun., May 7 with morning worship service and some families will meet for lunch in the fellowship hall; Herring Cemetery on May 14 and the families will meet in the afternoon; McKendree United Methodist Church Cemetery on Sun., May 14 with morning worship service; Andrew’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery on Sun., May 21; Corinth Community Cemetery on Sun., May 21 with morning worship service at the Methodist Church in the fellowship hall and a singing after lunch; Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery on Sun., May 21 with morning worship service; Falkville City Cemetery on Sun., May 14; Evergreen Church Cemetery on Sun., May 28 and the families will meet in the cemetery to visit; Hopewell Church Cemetery on Sun., May 28 with morning worship service; Mt. Vernon Methodist Church Cemetery on Sun., May 14 with special Decoration Service and lunch and singing afterward; Johnson’s Chapel Church Cemetery on Sun., May 14 and also Mount Tabor Church Cemetery on Sun., May 14.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week for the family of Elvin A. Yoder of the Massey Community.                                                                                                      Fairview-the Grace Place’s Gals of Grace will meet on Thur., May 11 in the gym at 6:30. The next meeting will be May 25.                                                       The Senior Citizen Caleb Club met on Wed., May 10 at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Decatur. The Fairview Men will meet on Thur., May 11 at the Barn in Falkville at 6:30 p.m. Their next meeting will be on May 25.

“Muffins with Mom” will be a Mother’s Day celebration, which will be held on May 14 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Fairview’s Nook.                                                                        Patricia Echols, Jessie Emerson, Sarah Hill, Tammy Morgan and Dawn Shedd from Corinth West Baptist Women’s group returned on Sun. afternoon, April 30 from a Conference in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Rev. Phil Waldrop’s Women of Joy study was called “Immeasurably More” and the scripture for the conference was Ephesians 3:20-21: (20)-Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. (21)-Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen .

Decoration Day was observed at McKendree United Methodist Church and Community Cemetery on Sun., May 7. Mother’s Day was also observed during the morning worship service with the women being presented with a rose and appreciation for Mother’s was expressed. The youngest and the oldest Mother was present received gifts. Those members and area people who were interred at McKendree Cemetery were remembered. Relatives of members were commemorated, as well.                                                                                           Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week for the family of Harold Morris, the Miller family and the Tom Drinkard family.                                                   Our thoughts and prayers go out this week for Gloria Bryant, Letha Hopkins and Frankie.

Special happy birthday wishes go out this week for Anita Reid and she will celebrate her birthday on May 12.                                                                                                                Jerome Ward, music director at Mt. Zion Baptist Church organized the Singspiration Singing at the Hartselle Tabernacle on Sun., April 30. President of the W.M.U., Beverly Murphy and the Women’s group as well as other members and area churchwomen provided delicious refreshments in the tabernacle complex dining hall. Drizzle and chill didn’t keep people at home. A large crowd attended the Gaither Classic Gospel type song service.

McKendree United Methodist Church hosted the weekly Community supper on Fri., April 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Members brought ham, potato salad, corn and macaroni and cheese with desserts and tea. For praise and worship and the program and discussion groups, everyone went to the Bridge Center. A special program was given by Tony who is director of Celebrate Recovery for the Northwest District of the Methodist Conference. Tony also gave his testimony which was inspirational.
