In God’s word we find many scriptures where we can show love to others. In Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 19:19, 22:39, Mark 12:31, Galatians 5:14 and James 2:8 it tells us: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. You may ask yourself who is my neighbor? It’s someone that has a need and you can show your love by being a help to them.

I recently received a letter from the director of community Services and she explains how you can make a difference to so many. So glad to be able to pass it along:

My name is Cindy Anderson and I have the privilege of working with the Community Action Partnership of North Alabama. One of the many programs we operate is Meals on Wheels and more programs we prepare and deliver nutritional meals to an average of 325 homebound residents of Morgan County each day (Monday-Friday). These meals are prepared with love by staff at our licensed kitchen facility in Decatur. Meals on Wheels enhance the quality of life of homebound individuals by providing nutritious meals, personal contact and making referrals to other community resources when necessary.

At this time, we have a great need for volunteer drivers. We need someone/a small group to help deliver meals to homebound residents that live in Decatur and Hartselle. Our Decatur volunteers pick the meals up at the kitchen, which is located at 1520 4^th Avenue (near Cook’s Pest Control) between 9:30-10:30 a.m. Hartselle volunteers will meet our driver, Garland Blackburn, at the Train Depot downtown Hartselle between 9:30-9:45 to pickup the coolers containing the meals along with their route sheet.

After volunteers complete their route, they return the coolers to the Train Depot and leave them at a designated location. Most routes (both Decatur and Hartselle) take between 1-1-1/2 hrs. to complete. When we have a new volunteer, we normally allow them to “ride along” with another driver until they are comfortable with a route.

As you and I know, it is such a blessing to serve others in our community in this way. For many of our meal recipients, the contact with a Meal on Wheels volunteer is the only human contact that they have each day. They are so appreciative of the meal and most importantly, the person that has taken the time to deliver it. How great it would be for the members of New Center to serve those in our community.
