MASSEY COUPLE CELEBRATES 70TH ANNIVERSARY
Gene and Peggy Dobbs Durand of Massey were honored by their family on their 70th wedding anniversary Sun., Feb. 26. Weston and Tina Shelton of Massey hosted the celebration and served a delicious meal and cake, ice cream and punch. Peggy and Gene received many cards and congratulations.
Area residents and visitors enjoyed hotdogs, slaw, salads, chips and dip and cake and lemon ice box pie and also tea and soft drinks which was in honor of one of the ‘Recovered” Celebration Members at McKendree United Methodist Church on Fri., Feb. 24. Noah Battles led the song and worship portion of the 6:30 service. There was a testimony of a recovery person also. The twelve-step program was recited. Terri Sanford, Maria Ochoa and Hank and Marsha Summerford were with the youth and children. Brother Mike Vest led the men’s discussion and Tammy Vest was the leader for the women’s group.
Eli Kauffman, Samuel Nisly, Loyd Brenneman and Matthew Gibson were the song leaders in charge of the Mennonite Community Outreach on Sun., Feb. 26. The Massey and Hartselle area homebound residents and people who are alone were blessed by their singing. After the visiting and singing the members gathered back at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church at Massey for a farewell supper honoring Steve and Marilyn Kauffman who are leaving soon to work at a Children’s Home in Virginia. Our prayers and good wishes go with the Kauffmans.
Dr. John Russell, pastor at Falkville First United Methodist Church conducted the worship service on Sun., Feb. 26. He chose Psalms 99 for the Responsive Reading. Jo Wilson is in charge of the children’s time and Bess Russell leads the children’s lesson some Sundays. Dr. John’s sermon was on “Hard Roads and the Lord Making A Way.” The scripture for the day was Ecclesiastes 3:20, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
The First United Methodist Church of Falkville had “First Sunday” fellowship lunch on Mar. 5 after morning worship service. The congregation enjoyed praise and worship and communion before the meal. The Youth meet on Wed. nights. The new Sunday School Class will meet each Sunday at 10 a.m.
Fairview-the Grace Place Gals of Grace met Thur., Mar. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Freight House. The Fairview Men met at the Summerford Barn on Thur., March the 2nd.
Fairview’s fundraiser for the Children’s Camp was held on Sun., Feb. 26. The Swamp John’s supper was from 4 to 6 p.m. Fairview’s Caleb Club senior citizens met on Wed., Mar. 2 at 11 a.m. at Libby’s in Priceville.
A pot-luck fellowship supper will be enjoyed on Wed., Mar. 8 at 6:15 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. At 7 p.m. pastor Brother Wayne Penn will conduct the monthly church business meeting.
