The Danville Lady Hawks moved to 7-2 on the season after an impressive outing in a game vs. the West Morgan Lady Rebels. After dropping their first game, Danville reeled off six wins in a row including five straight in the Decatur softball invitational before being knocked out of the tournament by Priceville. Meanwhile, West Morgan was coming off a disappointing outing in the same tournament in which they dropped three of their four games, including two games by just one run each.

The game was tied at 1-1 after the first inning as Callie Ryan blasted a solo shot for Danville and Aaliyah Wallace scored off a sacrifice pop out from Jada Terry. West Morgan led 3-2 after three innings but it was a three run home run by Cailey Barbee in the fourth that gave West Morgan a huge edge with a 6-2 lead.

Danville responded in the fifth as Savanna Pelfrey scored and then Morgan Weatherwax blasted a two run home run to cut the score to 6-5.

West Morgan extended their lead to 7-5 when Terry scored off an error, but the Hawks tied the game up at 7-7 when Emma Broadfoot and Grace Cobb scored off a sacrifice ground-out and a single respectively. Danville took the lead for good in the seventh when Broadfoot and Cobb both hit solo home runs to give the Hawks the lead 9-7. West Morgan got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but a double play ended the game and the Hawks held on to win 9-7.

Danville head coach Lori Bailey was pleased with her team’s refusal to give up after getting down 6-2. “We stress focusing and finishing and today they did it. We got behind but they didn’t give up and they fought back.” Bailey said. “We got down to Priceville in the tournament and this game we didn’t get down and we just kept coming back.”
