Hartselle School Board addressed its search for a chief financial officer and reviewed a  four-month financial report at a work session on Feb. 13.

Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson reported having received four confirmed applications for the vacant CFO position. He referenced some of the qualifications listed on the resumes and indicated he was particularly impressed with the background and qualifications of one of the applicants.

“I have received numerous recent contacts from individuals who indicated an interest in pursuing the position,” he said, “but for whatever reason, written responses has been slow. “We are keeping the search open for an indefinite period of time in the hope that we’ll receive more applications.”

The school board has the responsibility of filling the position but Board Chairman Randy   

Sparkman said the expertise of Wilson is vital to the process.

“We’re hopeful to be in position to conduct interviews around the first of March and have a new CFO on board by April 1,” he said.

“One of the CFO’s jobs is to formulate a proposed budget for the next school year,” Wilson pointed out. “That’s something that’s usually taking place at this time. “We don’t want a delay in filling the position to place a burden on the budgeting process.”

Lisa McMurray, a retired CSFO, is currently managing financial matters for the school district on a 60-day contract.

Her report on financials for the Oct. 1, 2016, through Jan. 31 2017, was wail received by the superintendent and board.

“She’s doing a wonderful job,” Wilson stated. We’re fortunate to have someone with her

background and experience to help us out on a temporary basis.”

“Traditionally, revenues are slow coming in during January and February but we’re sound financially,” he added. “We’re fortunate to have 3.2 months of revenue in reserve.”
