The Town of Priceville will be honoring Assistant Police Chief Ron DeWeese for serving as a member of the Priceville Police Department for over 30 years with an upcoming retirement party.

DeWeese said after his run in with some health issues last October it seemed like the right time to retire.

“I’m going to be mainly concentrating on my health and making it a point to be healthy,” DeWeese said. “I had a stroke while on duty last Oct. 8 and they flew me to the hospital. The next day I had a second stroke. I had a blood clot that had formed and went to my brain and had surgery to remove it. The surgeon told me that he had performed many surgeries like mine and I was very lucky to be alive.”

DeWeese is an avid runner and to date has actually completed five marathons. He and his wife, who is a Morgan County Dispatch Supervisor, teach a 10-week running program sponsored by fleet feet for beginner runners.

“We have two 5k’s in Priceville that we are over, one is in June and other, which is a 5k/10k is in October,’ DeWeese said. “A lot of the runners who do the couch to 5k program we teach aim to do the PCRA 5k race that we have in June.”

DeWeese said he would continue to work part-time at Tucker’s Gun and Pawn store in Priceville.

The Priceville Council members discussed the ins and outs of the retirement party for DeWeese during their council meeting on Feb. 13.

In other business the council:
