Robert H. Self

Robert H. Self, 87, went home to be with his Lord on February 5, 2017 at his home. Robert was born June 29, 1929 to Elbert and Edith Bridges Self. Funeral service was Wed. Feb. 8, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Hill, Bro. Tom Campbell and Bro. Harold Fanning officiating. Burial was at Johnson Chapel Cemetery.

Robert was a longtime member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and, along with his wife, was active with the youth in previous years. He also enjoyed singing in the choir. Robert retired from Goodyear Mills in Decatur after service of 37 ½ years.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Justin Self (Curtis); son-in-law, Bill Toone; brother, Roy Self and sisters, Idalene Singleton and Wilma Boger.

Robert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Bertha Wilma Garrison Self; son, Jerry Self (Pam); daughters, Judy Toone, Berthalene Counterman (Robert), Charlene Self and Darlene McCormick (Delane); grandson, Jason Self (Beth); granddaughters, Darcie Dean (Marcus), Dena Thomason (Jeremy) and Danielle Teague (Michael); great-grandchildren, Courtney and Katie Self, McKenzie and Evan Klocek, Gwyn, Reagan and Reid Dean, Wyatt, Ayden and Arleigh Thomason and Eli and Owen Teague; sisters, Hazel Brown, Inez Borden, Eleanor Gouge and Edna Nafe; sister-in-law, Fannie Mae Self, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers where Jason Self, Brian Sharp, Wayne Borden, Darryl Terry, Dwain Self, Jeff Anders, Greg Taylor and Virgil Vest.

We extend sincere thanks to Alacare for their loving care of our loved one, especially Jewel Ann, Charlotte, Betty, Evelyn and Bro. Fanning.
