Soldiers deserve our support
Editor,
I am a long time resident of Hartselle. In fact, I was born at Pineview Hospital before it closed. I was married May 15, 2002 to a wonderful man in the Army. I am living in Ft. Bragg, N.C.
My husband is with the 1 Batt. 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment 82nd Airborne. He is currently in Iraq fighting for our country and those poor people of Iraq.
I am writing this because I believe, regardless of how people feel about this war, we should support our troops overseas. We should support them no matter what. We do not need a repeat of Vietnam.
When our soldiers come home, we should honor them as heroes, not treat them the way our veterans were treated.
We are currently expecting our first child in September. I just pray that my husband makes it home in time for our child's birth.
He is Spc. Morris Davis. Please, no matter what people's views are, support our troops and our President of the United States.
My parents, Henry and Cathy Quattlebaum of Hartselle, support our troops 100 percent also. Everyone should be as loyal.

Most students obey the dress code

I am writing to express my opinion on the recent decision to possibly vote on uniforms for Hartselle City Schools.
I have a teen that attends Hartselle High School in the ninth grade who I take and pick up from school each day. Because of that, I do see what a large number are wearing and I see no inappropriate attire.
In response to Shirley Funk's statement that parents and children no longer care about the way they look or the impression they make, I find that statement to be ridiculous.
I do care what my children wear and they are properly dressed each day.
We, for the most part, in Hartselle have very involved parents in our school system. I have a child who attends Crestline also and she also goes to school dressed in appropriate attire.
I support my children's right to individuality and, at the same time, I oversee that they are dressed in a proper manner.
It also makes no sense to say that dressing differently makes one compete against another. There are statistics to support both sides of the uniform debate but, bottom line, our students and teachers alike in Hartselle are from, what I have seen, always appropriately dressed at school.
