The Hartselle Lady Tigers were in action last weekend when they traveled to Hoover to play in a tournament. The Tigers were trying to get past the 12-0 loss they took to Cullman as they prepared for the area tourney in the beginning of May.

In the first game, the Tigers took on the Florence Falcons. The game would remain scoreless until the top of the fifth when Florence took the lead 1-0. Hartselle would take back the lead when Mary Jane Wooley scored thanks to a single from Anna Stinson. Kylie Winton  also scored to give Hartselle the lead and eventual win 2-1. Hope Cain got the pitching win with 15 first pitch strikes and 5 strikeouts while allowing just 1 run.

In the second game, the Tigers  faced Marbury. Hartselle would take the first lead in the second inning when Mckenzie Jackson doubled to drive in Wooley. Marbury answered in the third with a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead. Marbury would go on to win the game 3-1. Hope Cain took the loss for the Tigers. She pitched 21 first pitch strikes and 6 strikeouts while allowing 3 runs through five innings.

In the third game, the Tigers took on Dickson County from Tenn. Dickson took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. However, Hartselle’s bats exploded in the bottom of the first. Bailey Powell singled to drive in Kaitlyn Spangler and Wooley scored on a bases loaded walk to tie the game 2-2. Kalli Cartee would then score thanks to a sacrifice fly from Brianna Wallace and Powell scored thanks to a double from Gracie Poe to give Hartselle a 4-2 lead. The inning still wasn’t over. Kylie Winton scored thanks to a double from Kennadi Hogan and finally Spangler scored on an error to give Hartselle the 6-2 lead to end the first inning. The Tigers would go on to win the game 6-3. Cain took the pitching win with 14 first pitch strikes and 6 strikeouts.

The next game featured the Tigers playing Charles Henderson. Cain would hit a home run to start the top of the second and give Hartselle a 1-0 lead. Hogan would back that up with a two-run home run of her own to giving Hartselle

a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers tacked on to that lead in the third inning. Kalli Cartee smacked the Tigers third home run of the day to drive in herself and  Spangler as Hartselle now led 5-0. Wallace and Jackson finished the inning with doubles to bring the score to 7-0. The Tigers won the game 7-2. Cain took the win for the Tigers.

In the next to last game Hartselle would take on West Blocton. Hogan singled to drive in Winton to give Hartselle a 1-0 lead.  Spangelr knocked in a 3 run home run as Hartselle took a 4-0 lead. The Tigers would add 5 more runs in the third inning thanks to a single from Abbey Vinzant, doubles from Powell and Jackson, a home run from Hogan and a fielder’s choice. The Tigers now led 9-0. The game wasn’t over yet as West Blocton would score 6 runs in the fourth inning to cut the score to 9-6. They would add another 2 in the fifth but would be unable to make the comeback as Hartselle took the high scoring win 9-8. Cain took the win as she pitched 4 and ½ innings with 8 first pitch strikes and 3 strikeouts.

In the final game, Hartselle would face off with the Grissom Tigers. Despite outhitting Grissom 7-5, Hartselle would still fall as Grissom scored a single run in the first three innings to take the win 3-2. Emily Cowart led Hartselle with 2 hits.
