Sherman Blackstone Powell Jr.

Funeral for Sherman Blackstone Powell Jr., 66, of Falkville will be Friday, March 4, at 3 p.m. at Falkville First United Methodist Church with Bros. Curtis Stanford and Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, March 4, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Powell died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at his residence. He was born November 11, 1944, in Morgan County to Sherman Blackstone Powell Sr. and Virginia Hughes Powell. He was a 1963 graduate of Decatur High School, a graduate of St. Bernard College and Cumberland School of Law. He began his private practice in 1970. He was a member of the Alabama Bar Association and practiced law for over 40 years in Decatur. His passions were the “Great Outdoors” hunting, fishing and farming. He was preceded in death by Diane Alston Powell; his parents, Mr. Sherman Powell Sr. and Mrs. Virginia Hughes Powell; and a sister, Nancy Carol Powell.
He is survived by two sons, Sherman “Stoney” Blackstone Powell, III and wife Holly Lynn and William “Will” Alston Powell and wife Nikki; a daughter, Carol “Holly” Holland Howard and husband Jeff; two sisters, Sally Jo Coggin and Virginia “Ginny” Sue Owens and husband Bill; seven grandchildren; and a special friend, Amy Corsbie.
Pallbearers will be Mike Nixon, David Parks, Will Powell, Stoney Powell, Blackstone Powell and Alston Howard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Aycock, Jeff Howard, Stone Powell, Glenn Thompson, Jacob Roberts, Charles Oden, Greyson Howard, Don Stisher, Joshua Roberts, Asa Coggin and Jasper Faulk.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
