Mary Beth Henry plans to retire, effective April 30, after serving as child nutrition director for Morgan County Schools for 30 years.

She was honored with a retirement tea at the school system’s central office prior to a regular board meeting April 14.

“She always knew how important her job was to the education process,” said Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. “It was all about what was best for the kids. We are certainly going to miss the wealth of experience and dedication she brought to the position.”

“We will post the job, interview prospects and hopefully be able to make a recommendation to the board at our next meeting,” he said.

Henry was appointed CNP director in 1986. Previously, she taught home economics at Priceville High School and was a teacher at St. Ann’s Catholic School.

Henry said she has mixed emotions about retirement but looks forward to spending more time with her six grandchildren.

“I know I’m going to miss my co-workers, staff and the students, of course,” she added.  “Morgan County Schools have been good to me.”

Henry’s husband, Richard, is a retired manufacturing supervisor. They have two adult children. Their son lives in New Orleans and their daughter, Morgan Youngblood, is a teacher at Walter Jackson Elementary School in Decatur.
