Hartselle High School students will be competing in a robotics completion to be held at the University of Alabama during the weekend of April 9. “This is more of a programming challenge and makes the competition unique,” says faculty sponsor and teacher Bucky Garner. There will be 3 unknown challenges the students will need to complete without any parental or teacher interference. The team will have three hours to complete the challenges. The competition is about problem solving and not about building robots.

Last year was the first year for HHS to participate and they won the competition. According to Garner the students are really excited to compete again this year.

Dr. Nan Boden, the director of engineering at Google will be the keynote speaker.

Dr. Jeff Gray, the director of computer sciences at UA says this will be an opportunity for the students to network with industry and academic professionals.

Weston Corsbie, Noah Birdwell, Devan Deloach, Blake Mozley, Christopher Bartholomew, and Madison Slaten will be competing. Slaten is planning to study computer science at the University of Alabama.
