February 7, 2016

Funeral for Mrs. William H. Lovin “Jenny”, 82, of Decatur was Wed., Feb. 10, at First Baptist Church Decatur at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Madison and Rev. Roger Jenkins officiating and Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Lovin died Sun., Feb. 7, 2016. She was born April 1, 1933, in Cartersville, Ga. to Grady Lee Golden and Susie Fraser Golden and moved to Decatur with her family in 1943. She attended Decatur City Schools, Montevallo College and graduated from Auburn University in 1955. At Auburn, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and majored in Health and Physical Education. She taught first and second grades at West Decatur School in Decatur. She has been a member of First Baptist Church Decatur since 1969 where she taught children’s Sunday school, children’s choir and served on various committees. She served in many volunteer organizations in this community including her time in the Decatur Junior Service League as president, the Decatur Cotillion Club, the Girl Scouts, Decatur City School Key Communicator, “Grandmother Tutor” at Eastwood Elementary and the board of directors with the area Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Her special joy in life was loving deeply and walking steadily by the side of her late husband, William H. “Bill” Lovin as he gave himself in service to his family, his church, the City of Decatur, and the State of Alabama. Her loving sentiment for her family was felt by all in her “family circle.” The love she had for her grandsons, daughter and son-in-law was her trademark and a badge of love she wore proudly. She also cherished playing bridge with her dear friends and using her gift of writing for the encouragement of others through her special notes and poems. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, William H. “Bill” Lovin; her parents Grady Lee and Susie Fraser Golden; her brothers Bobby Golden of Athens, Allen Golden of Wilmington, N.C. and Marvin Golden of Hartselle; beloved sister, Miriam Howard; and brother-in-law, H.W. Howard of Cartersville, Ga.

She is survived by her daughter Suzy Lovin Baggett and son-in-law Randy; grandson, William (Bill) Randall Baggett (Helen); and great-granddaughters, Adeline Ruth and Caroline Randall; grandson, Patrick Fraser Baggett (Amy); and great-granddaughter, Eleanor Lovin; and a sister-in-law, Julia Lovin Ducker; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews, Michael Howard, Woodward Howard, Patrick Howard, Dale Golden and Harry Golden; Jack Moores-Godson, and dear friends, Bert Crane, Bailey Crane and David Matthews. Honorary pallbearers will be Gil Crane, Jim Odom, the Bridge Club and The Erickson Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Decatur or the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
