Primary Election candidates decided

The field of local candidates for the March 1, 2016, Primary Election was decided November 6 after Morgan County Republican and Democratic Executive Committees stopped taking applications.

All six Morgan County officeholders whose terms are expiring qualified for reelection. They are: Ray Long, Morgan County Commission chairman; Don Stisher, District 3 Morgan County commissioner; Greg Abercrombie, District 4 Morgan County Commissioner; Scott Anderson, Morgan County district attorney; Paul Holmes, District 4 Morgan County School Board member; and Jeff McLemore District 7 Morgan County School Board member.

McLemore is the only incumbent with opposition. He faces a challenge from John Holley.

Long is seeking his second 6-year term, Stisher his fifth 4-year term, Abercrombie his third 4-year term; Anderson his second 6-year term, Holmes his second 4-year term and Mclemore his second 4-year term.

The Democratic Party had no one qualify for the county offices up for election.

The Primary Election will be held Tues., Mar. 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A run-off if needed is scheduled on Tues, April 12,

State offices up for election are three seats on the State Supreme Court, chairman of the Public Service Commission and four seats on the State Board of Education.

The Primary ballot will also list candidates for president, one U.S. Senate seat, one U.S. House of Representatives seat and delegates to both party’s conventions.

The deadline to register to vote in the March 1 election is Feb. 5, 2016. The deadline to register to vote in the November General Election is Oct. 24, 2016.
