Russell R. Messinger

Funeral for Russell R. Messinger, 87, of Hartselle was Wed., Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. with Bro. Jack Redfearn officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation was Wed., Sept. 2, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Messinger died Sun., Aug. 30, 2015, at his residence. He was born March 15, 1928, in Cook County, Ill., to Charles Messinger and Mildred Karnuth Messinger. Russ and Gloria (Kassmier) were married for 55 years before her passing in 2002. He was a production manager at GTE Automatic Electric Company in Northlake, Ill., worked at Paddock Publications in Arlington Heights, Ill. and operated his own janitorial service successfully for many years. He retired with Gloria to Hartselle in 1992. He loved cooking with Gloria, model railroading, big band music, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and loved every moment with his family and lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria; his parents; and his sister, Delores Peterson.

He is survived by four daughters, Cherle Louise Herzmann of Union, Ky., Susan Lynn Rutter, (Dan) of Oswego, Ill. and Patricia Ellen Messinger and Carolyn Beth Joy, (Dr. James), both of Hartselle; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren

Flowers will be accepted or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, Madison.
