Cameron Boyd of the Danville FFA Chapter placed first in the State FFA Home/Community Development Proficiency Contest held at the State FFA Convention in Montgomery June 9-12. He received a chapter banner,plaque and a check for his accomplishments and will compete at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., in October. The Danville FFA Vet Science Team placed third in the state contest at Auburn University June 9. Team members, from left, are Jackson Broadfoot, Juliana Gardner, Alaina Wiley and Garrett Robinson. The team received a chapter banner for its accomplishments. The purpose of the contest is to promote college and career readiness by providing opportunities to develop technical knowledge and demonstrate skills in the field of veterinary science. The team received a chapter banner and for their accomplishments. The contest consisted of plant and tree ID, written exam, landscape estimating, landscape drawing and problem solving. The Danville FFA Meats Evaluation Team placed second in the state contest at Auburn University June 9. Team members, from left, are Breanah Lawrimore, Kennedi Widner, Mallory Standridge and Logan Sparkman. The team received a chapter banner for its accomplishments. The Meats Evaluation and Technology CDE is designed to provide a competitive event for agriculture education students, develop employment skills in the meat animal industry, expand their knowledge of meat animal marketing and merchandising, develop broader analytical skills and critical thinking strategies, and develop an understanding of appropriate meat terminology. The event also develops the ability to evaluate meat animal products in order to optimize economic returns to producers and industry as well as meet the needs of the consumer. Karlie received a trophy for being the over-all high scoring individual in the contest. The team received a chapter banner for its accomplishments.
