Lady Bulldogs earn runner up at area

The Lady Bulldogs finished as Area 13 runner-up during the area tournament recently, earning a spot in the regional tournament last weekend for the first time since 2011.

Priceville 9, North Jackson 2

Priceville beat North Jackson 9-2 in game one of the area tournament.

Senior Abby St. John scattered seven hits, allowed two runs with one earned run and struck out two.

Kathleen  Wheeler went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Senior McKenzie Parker and Abby Hensley both went 2-for-4, with Parker having two doubles and a run and Hensley having an RBI, a double and a run. Sara Beth Wilson went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and two scores. Hannah Wheeler scored a run and had two singles and a RBI.

Westminster 3, Priceville 1

The Lady Bulldogs lost to 4A No. 2 Westminster 3-1 during game two.

Sara Beth Wilson had an RBI single, while McKenzie Parker was hit by a pitch and came around to score on Wilson’s single. Abby St. John got the loss, striking out five. St. John allowed three runs off seven hits.

Priceville 12, DAR 1

Priceville beat DAR 12-1 during game three of the area tournament.

Abby St. John went 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs and two stolen bases. St. John dominated on the mound, allowing only one hit, a bunt single and an unearned run. She struck out six in six innings with no walks.

Sara Beth Wilson went 3-for-3 with a two-RBI double, three runs and a stolen base. Kathleen Wheeler went 3-for-4 with a two-run homerun with a total of three RBIs and two stolen bases.

McKenzie Parker and Hannah Wheeler both went 2-for-4. Parker had an RBI and two runs, while Wheeler had an RBI double, a three-run homerun, and four total RBIs and two runs scored. Abby Hensley added an RBI single, and Alex Shields and Kylie Miller both singled.

Westminster 10, Priceville 0

Priceville lost the championship game to Westminster 10-0 during the area tournament.

McKenzie Parker, Sara Beth Wilson, Hannah Wheeler and Kathleen Wheeler each had a single.

Following the tournament, Coach Preston Potter said he was pleased with the girls’ performance.

“We are playing really well, way better than our record shows,” Potter said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the girls and the hard work they continue to put in. They are playing with a lot of confidence and having fun.”

Three Lady Bulldog team members were also honored during the tournament. Abby St. John, McKenzie Parker and Sara Beth Wilson were selected for the All-Area Tournament Team.

Potter said Hannah Wheeler and Kathleen Wheeler also deserved to be on the tournament team.

“Second place only represents three spots, but Hannah and Kathleen played great this weekend and were just as deserving as any member of the team,” Potter said.
