Lady Hawks earn area title

Danville’s Lady Hawks were named the area tournament champions after defeating Haleyville 2-1 Thur., April 30.

DHS pitcher Savannah Bolton threw seven innings on the way to the win. She struck out eight, walked one and allowed one run off five hits.

The Danville bats didn’t perform at their best, but it was still more than Haleyville. Kellee Stiles had an RBI double, and Morgan Weatherwax, Emma Broadfoot, Danielle Roof, Callie Ryan and Grace Cobb added a hit each.

Danville never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring one run on an error.

Danville downs Hamilton 4-0

Savannah Bolton threw a shutout to lift Danville to a 4-0 win over Hamilton at Danville during the first round of the area tournament Thur., April 30.

Bolton kept Hamilton off the scoreboard for all seven innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up seven strikeouts.

Callie Ryan paced the Lady Hawks at the plate. She went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. She singled in the fourth inning and tripled in the sixth inning.

DHS stayed on top after taking the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs on a sacrifice fly by Kellee Stiles and a two-run single by Ryan.

Emma Broadfoot added a double and Bolton singled.
