A traffic stop ended with the arrest of a Huntsville man Wednesday in Decatur.

Officer Jonathan Macklin of the Decatur Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit was patrolling near the intersection of Danville Road and Danville Park Drive SE at approximately 6:41 p.m. when he observed a black Ford Mustang traveling southbound on Danville Road with an expired tag.

Macklin conducted a traffic stop, and the front seat passenger identified himself as Cordell Harris and was found to be in possession of an open container of vodka. The same passenger then advised Macklin that his real name was Aaron Rice and that he had been untruthful about his name because he had warrants.

Macklin placed him under arrest for giving a false name to a law enforcement officer and open container. Macklin then transported the passenger to the Decatur City Jail.

After arriving at the jail, Macklin learned the passenger’s real name was Aaron Corday King, 25, of 4212 Bishop Circle SW, Huntsville. Further investigation determined King had felony robbery warrants through the Huntsville Police Department and was untruthful to avoid prosecution.

Macklin charged King with obstructing justice using a false identity and open container. King was booked into the city jail without incident. He will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 bond.
