Alan “Leo” Bonnell

Alan “Leo” Bonnell, Jr., 94, died April 3, 2015, at Falkville Nursing Home.

The family received friends Tues., April 7, at 6 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home for a tribute jam session and memorial service with the Rev. Michael Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bonnell was born Jan.19, 1921, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Alan L. and Minerva Flegal Bonnell. During World War II he served with the Army in the South Pacific. His passion was music and musical instruments which he collected and also built. He was preceded in death by his parents of Alamo. Mich.; his wife Donna of Plainwell, Mich.; his sister, Ruth Tidd of Hartselle; and brothers, Leslie of Gobles, Mich. and Max of Otsego, Mich.

He is survived by a son, Ron Bonnell (Sandy) of Decatur; a brother, Dale Bonnell of The Villages, Fla.; three grandsons, Cameron Bonnell (Kim) of Orange, Calif., Shane Alexander (Shelly) of Hartselle and Shad Alexander (Regina) of Decatur; and seven great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his special friends Kay and Arlo Sharp.

A memorial service will be held in Plainwell, Mich., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to: Comfort Care Hospice, 2424 Danville Rd. Suite M, Decatur, AL 35603, Impact Program c/o Hartselle Junior High School or to the Alzheimer’s Support Group.
