Cheyenne Wilson, a senior member of Falkville High School’s softball team, signed a letter of intent to play softball for Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., on Feb. 23.

A signing ceremony was conducted in the school library with her parents, coaches and team members in attendance. A reception followed.

“Playing softball at the college level is something I’ve dreamed about for as long as I can remember,” said Wilson, a catcher and third baseman.  “When I visited Bryan’s campus, I really liked what I saw. The college has a small-town atmosphere, a growing softball program and strong academic standards.”

Wilson is entering her senior season as a four-year varsity starter and the team’s leading hitter. She compiled a .481 batting average as a junior.

She was recruited as a catcher.

She plans to study for a career in physical therapy.

“She has done a good job for us the two years I’ve been here,” said head coach Gary Pressley. “She is a good role model and an effective leader.

“Her success shows the younger players the opportunity that’s out there for them if they work hard and make the most of their ability” he added. “It’s also a good way for them to get some help with their college expenses.”

Wilson was recruited primarily as a catcher and is one of eight freshmen Bryan College head softball coach Rocky Stinson said he is bringing on board in 2015.

“I like the way she plays defense and makes contact with the ball,” Stinson stated. “We’ll work with her on getting more power from her bat. She should fit in well with our program.”
