Civic Center on standby for warming station
Sparkman Civic Center will be on standby to be a warming station if widespread power outages are caused by heavy snowfall Wednesday.
Hartselle Mayor Don Hall said Tuesday night everything is ready if the civic center is needed to be a warming station.
“We checked the generators today and everything is ready to go,” Hall said. “We won’t open it unless we have a power outage.”
In addition to that, Hall closed city hall on Wednesday after Gov. Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency. Only essential personnel were scheduled to report today, including fire, police and public works employees.
However, garbage pickup proceeded as usual unless roadways became to hazardous for travel. Hall said any remaining garbage that was scheduled for today would be picked up next week.
