Hartselle man murdered
Somerville man in custody, accused of shooting victim
A Somerville man turned himself into the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department Monday night after he was accused of shooting a Hartselle man near the Somerville Post Office.
Morgan County Chief Deputy Sheriff Mike Corley identified the victim as Chad Anthony Lorance, 32, of 170 Griffin Road in Hartselle . The shooting occurred at 41 Broad St. in Somerville Monday afternoon.
Lorance sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and was later pronounced dead at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
An autopsy was ordered by Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn, and the body was taken to an Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences lab in Huntsville.
Gregory Bryan Crow, 32, of 69 Broad St. of Somerville, was in custody at Morgan County Jail Tuesday morning and was charged with murder as a suspect in the shooting.
Corley said the victim and the suspect knew each other.
They were seen talking to each other in the driveway at 41 Broad St. before the shooting at 4:10 p.m.
Corley said he couldn’t positively identify the gun used in the shooting because it had not been recovered.
The shooting is being investigated by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
