Sub-zero wind chills expected Wednesday, Thursday

An arctic cold front with wind chill temperatures expected to dip below zero Wednesday night and Thursday is on its way to the Tennessee Valley.

“We are going to experience winter’s coldest temperatures so far this week,” said Jessica Chase, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Huntsville. “The blast of cold air moving our way will cause temperatures to drop into the single digits Wednesday and Thursday. Wind gusts up to 10 mph will cause wind chill temperatures to plummet below zero.”
Chase said there’s a slight chance of snow flurries between 6 a.m. and noon Thursday.

“It will depend on how much moisture is in the air,” she said. “No significant accumulation is expected.”

She said the wind chill would drop below zero late Wednesday and remain there throughout Thursday. The worst of the cold will move out of the area Friday.
