Nunn-Oden Lodge marks 100 years in same building

Nunn-Oden Masonic Lodge #398 F&AM observed 100 years in the same building at the corner of Sparkman and Hickory Street in Hartselle Saturday morning.

To commemorate the centennial celebration, John Strickling, Grand Master of Alabama, presented the lodge a framed certificate of achievement. Worshipful Master K. Cole Irvin accepted the award.

Strickling and Irvin also unveiled an engraved plaque to commemorate the event. After the plaque was shown to lodge members and guests, a prayer of dedication was spoken by lodge chaplain Mark Quint.

Strickling commended lodge members for their service and reminded them, “Let’s not forget the work of our brothers that came before us. We are taught the internal not the external, taking a good man and making him a better man.”

He also noted that the lodge has produced three grand masters: the late Troy Nunn, Jim Eidson and Charter Nicholson.

Hartselle Mayor Don Hall spoke briefly congratulating lodge members for their rich history and for occupying the same building for 100 years.

“My hope and prayer is that you will continue in your good work and that you and members coming after you will be meeting here for another 100 years,” he said.

Past Master Robert Anderson presented a history of the Masonic Hall.

He said Lodge #398 was established in 1875 and was located in another building on Main Street. A resolution was approved in 1971 to change the name to Nunn-Oden Lodge #398.

The existing building was constructed in 1914 as a joint effort of Hartselle Masonic Lodge, Knights of Pythius and Woodmen of the World.
