Church receives donation for stained glass window

Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartselle installed two stained glass windows in the sanctuary on Nov. 22.

They are a memorial gift from Larry Ballentine’s family, who donated the funds for the creation and installation of these artistic and original windows. Ballentine was a long-time member, tutor, elder and charter member of this congregation. The people of this church are very grateful for this bright memorial.

The beautiful stained glass windows are located behind the altar and were dedicated Nov. 23. Ballentine’s wife, Marilyn, and their children participated in the dedication service along with the congregation.

Seeking themes and images for the windows, many ideas were discussed with the family. The windows show the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The scenes are commonly found in the traditions of the Lutheran Church, yet it is the creative presentation that brings a contemporary spirit to them.

The image of Christ in the resurrection scene seems to walk right out of the window with welcoming arms. The design and colors make the windows appear almost three-dimensional, capturing the historic tradition of the church with the artist’s dramatization of the agony in the death of Christ and the welcome affirmation of His resurrection with color and design.

Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church members invite you to come and give thanks for this gift of beauty.

The artist and designer who made the windows is Terry Alexander of Huntsville Stained Glass. He can be found at huntsville.stainedglass.com.

The church also offers extra opportunities to attend midweek advent services on Dec. 3, 10 and 17 at 7 p.m. in addition to the regular worship services on Sundays in Advent.

In addition, Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church has two special December events to share.

Come to The Yarn Shop at 410 Main St. for free hot chocolate served by Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church members during Hartselle’s Annual Christmas Parade on Dec. 11.

On Dec. 12, at 6 p.m., Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church will be caroling and watching a Christmas movie after a supper of pizza. Come and share this free festive family evening at 721 Pickens St. SW.
