Edwards named state UDC president

At the 119th United Daughters of the Confederacy annual convention held in Montgomery Sept. 19, Decatur resident Linda Edwards was elected state president.

Edwards has been a member of the Joe Wheeler Chapter 291 UDC of Decatur since 2005. She served as the chapter president during 2012-2014. Edwards is the second state president elected from the Joe Wheeler Chapter, which was chartered in March 1899.

Also attending the convention were Joe Wheeler Chapter members; Glendora James, Kathy Jones, Judy Blackwell, Kay McCarley, Bettye Moore, Louise Nicol, Betty Lovvorn, and Cathleen Appleton. State President of the Children of the Confederacy John Appleton of the Little Joe Wheeler Chapter Children of the Confederacy brought greetings from the children’s group.

The Joe Wheeler Chapter was also awarded eleven achievement certificates during the convention, including three personal awards for Edwards, Moore and Joyce Shumate.
