Falkville’s Mayor Bob Ramey is hopeful that the Sept. 2 town council meeting will be held in the new additions to Town Hall.

More improvements will need to be made to the outside and furniture will have to be installed, but the municipal courtroom should be available to use for the council meeting.

Outside improvements to the parking lot and A/C unit area were not included in initial bids for the project. These improvements will be costs additional to the low bid of  $244,727 from ReidCo General Contracting back in January.

At a regularly scheduled work session Tues., Aug. 26, the council discussed what projects would be necessary outside. They brought up the need for some sort of barrier around the new A/C units and generators to protect them from being hit by a vehicle. They also discussed the importance of back-filling the alleyway behind the building for drainage purposes. The parking lot could also be resurfaced and re-striped.

The council addressed the issue of three roadways that need immediate attention. They plan to use Street Resurfacing/Reconstruction/Repair funds from a four-cent gasoline account to make the upgrades to Piney Grove St., Railroad St. and Sivley Drive.

The streets will be upgraded in order of urgency and as the $24,000 in funds will allow.

The council plans to participate in the nation-wide POW/MIA Recognition Day on Sept. 19. They discussed asking residents to dress in black and white and placing ribbons on doors of Falkville’s POW/MIA veterans to honor those who served.

The council also announced that Falkville would be involved in the 2014 Morgan County Clean-up week Sept. 22-27. They plan to encourage the town to help pick up trash at the off ramps of Interstate 65, along Highway 55 and U.S. 31 Sat., Sept. 27.
