Hughes Holmes

Funeral for Hughes Holmes, 76, of Eva will be Sun., July 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Stone officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Hamby’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Sat., July 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Holmes died Fri., July 11, 2014, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 16, 1938, in Morgan County to Emern Argust Holmes, Sr. and Viola Clyde Maddux Holmes. He was a member of Hamby’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Holmes served in the United States Air Force and was formerly employed by the Morgan County School System as an HVAC Technician. He was preceded in death by a brother, Emern A. Holmes, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Miller Holmes of Eva; two sons, Dennis Hughes Holmes and Donald Paul Holmes, both of Eva; a daughter, Jennifer Holmes Fyock of Daphne; two brothers, Zack Holmes and John Holmes; eight sisters, Mary Edith Griffin, Dorothy Oglesby, Barbara Neal, Alice Johnson, Martha Bentley, Judy Fortenberry, Sandra McCleskey and Cathy Turner; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Holmes, William Neal, Keith Cobbs, Trey Fyock, Michael Halbrooks and Luke Holmes.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or donate blood in his memory.
