Falkville schedules public hearing for Culver Road
The Falkville Town Council will hold a public hearing Thursday at 2 p.m. regarding construction on Culver Road.
There will also be a community prayer gathering Saturday at 9 a.m. at Town Hall.
According to a regularly scheduled work session Tuesday night, the council is considering allowing Mayor Bob Ramey to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to help fund the project. There are a few options under consideration for the planned improvements.
Options include adding a culvert at the intersection of Culver Road and Highway 55, widening the entrance from Highway 55 to Culver Road, adding a left turn lane from Culver Road onto Highway 55, or a combination of these options.
Samaritan EMS out of Brindlee Mountain signed a 45-day contract with Falkville after First Response EMS decided they could not fulfill their 30-day contract. Samaritan will keep one of their 17 ambulances in Falkville and one in Hartselle. They are also planning on housing a 12-hour day truck in the area six days a week.
Councilman David Carroll said he felt good about the new contract with Samaritan since they are a non-profit organization.
“Samaritan is a non-profit ran by a board of members instead of a business with stockholders or presidents with deep pockets,” Carroll said. “We might have to enter into some sort of subsidy with them and offer them something for their services, but I feel much better about doing that with a non-profit, so I can know where our money is going.”
The council is considering replacing a “Welcome to Falkville” sign that was blown down recently. The council could replace the sign with an identical one or replace all three Falkville signs with new updated ones. Replacing the damaged sign is estimated to cost a little over $1,000. Estimates have not yet been made to replace all three signs.
The council will hold a regular meeting Tues., July 1 at 6 p.m. to vote on these issues and more.
