Falkville church launches Backpack Bonanza project
Pine Street Independent Baptist Church in Falkville is sponsoring a “Backpack Bonanza” to help low-income parents in the Falkville School District provide needed classroom supplies for their children for the 2014-2015 school year.
“This is an outreach ministry God has put on my heart as well other members of our small congregation,” said event coordinator Tina Robinson.” We are already receiving donations of needed school supplies at the church and we’re reaching out to other churches and community organizations to participate.”
“Our goal is to provide a filled backpack for every K-4 student at Falkville Elementary School who has a need,” she added. “We have worked with teachers and the office staff to identify students needing our help.”
The church is sponsoring a “Backpack Bonanza” spaghetti supper Fri., June 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. to raise money to purchase school supplies. The cost is $6 per plate.
A community picnic at South Park is planned on Sat., July 19, to bring further attention to the “Backpack Bonanza” event.
School supplies donations will be accepted but the emphasis will be on bringing families together for a day of fun, fellowship and entertainment in the park.
Hot dogs and cold drinks will be provided free of charge. Local barbers will volunteer their time to give boys and girls free haircuts.
Serviceable used clothing and shoes will be offered to families in need. In addition, local churches will provide singers throughout the day.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m.
All donations will be welcomed and greatly appreciated.
The church will be receiving school supplies through July 14. If you need someone to pick up donations or for more information, call Robinson at 256-466-1727 or 256-590-1751.
