The Falkville Town Council approved a capital improvement comprehensive plan during a rescheduled council meeting Tues., June 10, at the Fire Department.

This plan includes the Town of Falkville Project Priority List, which is a list of 11 important improvements the council would like to see completed in order to promote the prosperity and general welfare of Falkville and its citizens.

At the top of the list is replacing the culvert to Lone Wolf on Buster Road. The council said the will have a meeting with the Alabama Department of Transportation about this Wednesday morning. This project includes not only the town council but also the county Commission District Three and Development Board.

Next on the list is upgrading Culver Road. These improvements include replacing a culvert, widening the road from Highway 55 and making a turn lane to Highway 55. The council is working on having this project funded by a grant.

Equally important on the list is adjusting waterlines that would connect water from Culver Loop to lines in front of Pilgrims Pride feed mill, connecting water from Culver Road to lines in the curve of Buster Road and connecting water along Broad Street from Piney Grove Street to Railroad Circle.

Councilman David Carroll said this list was a way of organizing the important upgrades that need to be made to ensure their successful completion.

“We got tired of thinking that we needed to do something, so we made this list of improvements,” Carroll said. “We feel these improvements will help the citizens and current and future businesses of Falkville to have a better place. Now we can have some direction to make sure we can always be making improvements.”

Other items of improvement on the list include: lagoon improvements, storm shelters for the town, striping and a stop sign on Railroad Street, drainage between Pine Street and Highway 55, new light poles for Second Avenue and Falkville High School, repairs to streets and sidewalks in residential areas, a right turn lane form Highway 55 onto U.S. 31 and upgrades and a paved parking lot for the Parks and Recreation building.
