Two Falkville High School seniors interested in pursuing careers in agriscience will receive a $500 college scholarship this year thanks to the Falkville FFA Chapter Alumni Association.

The association sponsored its second annual tractor show and Swamp Johns dinner at Falkville High School recently to raise money for the scholarships.

“The alumni really help us out a lot,” said Ethan Lake, first year agriscience teacher and FFA chapter advisor. “In addition to the scholarships, they help with charity projects and other needs we have.”

“We look for ways to give back to the chapter,” said alumnus Ashley Holmes. “Our efforts are all about helping promote the agricultural industry and be there for the FFA chapter when they need us.”

FFA members and alumni joined together in conducting the tractor show and helping with the Swamp Johns dinner.

Lake said the school’s FFA chapter has had a good year.

“We’ve participated in several FFA team competitions and had some success,” he pointed out.

The Falkville FFA forestry judging team won second place district competition and advanced to state competition, which will be held in Montgomery June 3. Members of that team are Bryan Holmes, Kaitlyn Boyer, Logan Byrd, Lucas Townsend and Cole Asherbranner.
