FHS band room named for Henry Bradley
Falkville High School band room was dedicated in memory of former band director Henry Bradley on Friday afternoon.
The event was attended by Dollie Bradley of Harvest, son Marcus and two children, Alayna and Ryan, Other guests included a cousin, Janice Bevell and an aunt, Viola Bevell, both of Decatur and friends, Langdon and Annice Conaway of Huntsville and Augustus and Claudia Smith of Decatur.
Principal Glenn Lang presented the family with an engraved plaque, which will be displayed in the band room. Another permanent marker will be placed in front of the building.
Several of Mr. Bradley’s band member also attended. They included Eric Summerford, an attorney and Carol Tyler. A kindergarten teacher at Falkville Elementary. School.
“He taught us a lot about life,” said Summerford. “We loved to have him with us and we miss him. He told us our band was the last one he would ever direct. He left here to take an assistant principal’s job at Bob Jones High School and remained in school administration f or the rest of his career.”
Tyler read a letter of appreciation she wrote to Bradley in 2006.
“I was a freshman in high school when he left s in 1974,” she said. “We all love him and hated to see him go. He was a living example of the golden rule. I’m so thankful for the influence he had on my life.”
“I wasn’t a member of the band when I was in high school,” said Morgan County School Board member Mike Tarpley. But I considered Mr. Bradley to be a friend. I know he touched many lives and I’m so happy we could do this in memory of him.”
