Falkville dropped from Walmart list

The Town of Falkville has been dropped from a list of 12 neighborhood markets that Walmart planned to build in Alabama this year.

“We were informed by email on April 25 that Falkville and five other locations were dropped from the original plan,” said Mayor Bob Ramey. “No reason was given but we were not told that the company has eliminated Falkville as a future site for one of its neighborhood centers.

“Of course, we all were very disappointed and felt like sitting down and crying,” he added. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed and hoping we’ll be put back on that list in the near future.”

Councilman David Carroll said he talked by phone to a representative of RAS Land and Cattle Co., an engineering firm employed by Walmart, as a follow-up to the email.

“I was told the Falkville location met all requirements when Walmart decided to pull back on its original expansion plan, Carroll said. “Hopefully, we’ll get back on their list in the near future. In the meantime, we’re continuing our search for new business and would welcome any reputable food store chain to located here

Last month, Walmart’s engineering firm requested and received approval from Falkville Planning Commission to subdivide 1.9 acres from the Robert Summerford farm as a site for one of its neighborhood markets.
