Danville’s Lady Hawks erupted for 12 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Hanceville 17-1 in area tournament competition at home Thursday.

By winning, they advanced to the second round in the winner’s bracket where they were scheduled to face the winner of Good Hope vs. Vinemont on Friday.

The Lady Hawks sent 15 batters to the plate in their first time at bat. They collected six singles, four walks and a hit batter and benefited from three Hanceville errors.

Morgan Weatherwax didn’t allow a hit in the game and struck out three batters in three innings of work.

Hanceville’s lone run came in the third inning on a fly ball fielding error, sacrifice bunt and a throwing error. However, the Lady Bulldogs wasted a scoring opportunity in the second inning after Weatherwax loaded the bases on three straight walks.

The Lady Hawks were credited with 10 hits. H. Bates had a pair of singles and two RBIs, Brittany Linderman tripled, had two RBIs and scored a run, Sloan Lindsey had a two-RBI single, Savannah Bolton, Lara Fagan, Weatherwax and C. Crowe each had as RBI single and Kellee Stiles and Kristen Dobbias each singled.
