Hartselle advances in area tourney

Taylor Wascavage hit a home run and Hope Cain struck out eight to lead Hartselle to a 2-0 win over West Point in the first round of the Class 5A, Area 15 tournament Thursday.

Wascavage finished 2-for-3 for the game. The other Hartselle run scored after one of her hits, as Hope Cain beat out a throw at the plate in the bottom of the first inning.

Wascavage then led off the fifth inning with a home run to left center.

The only other batter to get a hit was Gracie Poe. Senior Madeline Sittason drew two walks while Cain, Sarah Ellen Battles, Jada Hayes and Hannah Jenkins.

Cain earned the shutout, allowing just three hits and one walk.

The Lady Tigers honored the following seniors: Sittason, Battles, Ashley Boggs and Emily Lipinski.
