Schools delaying start two hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Hartselle City Schools and Morgan County Schools will be delaying the start of school two hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday due to the threat of black ice and extreme freezing temperatures.

Temperatures have been predicted to reach a low temperature of five degrees with wind chills approaching -10 degrees on Tuesday morning.

Any moisture that remains on roadways Sunday afternoon could freeze, causing black ice.

The following is a statement from Hartselle City Schools Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson:

“The latest weather forecasts give us strong indications that we will have EXTREMELY COLD temperatures on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. Monday we have a threat of Black Ice; Tuesday we have a predicted low of 5; and Wednesday we have a predicted low of 10. Due to these issues, we will delay school by two (2) hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week.

“Should the frozen precipitation prove to merit a longer delay on Monday, we reserve the right to extend the delay as needed.

“Please be cognizant of the weather situation over the weekend and into next week. Should anything change, I will get an email to you, and we will get the information on the news and an all-call.”

The following is a Facebook post from Morgan County Schools:

“Due to forecasted severe morning cold temperatures, all Morgan County Schools will be delayed two hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday January 6th, 7th and 8th. All schools will open and buses will run two hours later than their normal schedule. School personnel will be expected two hours later than their normal start time. Officials will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
