4-H participates in Chick Chain Project

The Morgan County 4-H program is once again offering youth the opportunity to take part in the 4-H Chick Chain project. In the Chick Chain project, young people purchase 12 one-day old-chicks, grow them out for 22 weeks and then bring their top three chickens to the 4-H Show and Auction where they will win prizes and have their top five chicks auctioned off.

The cost of the chicks is $30.00 and if youth bring three back to the show and auction, they are guaranteed to get that $30.00 back. Any young person ages 9 to 19 who lives or goes to school in Morgan County can take part.

You must register for this program with the Extension Office by March 21, 2014. Please contact the Morgan County Extension Office for a registration form or questions concerning this project at 256-773-2549.

4-H is the youth development component of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. 4-H helps young people from rural and urban areas explore their interests and expand their awareness of our world while providing opportunities to develop a greater sense of who they are and who they can become as contributing citizens of our communities, our state, our nation, and our world. The mission is achieved through research-based educational programs of Alabama A&M and Auburn Universities and an ongoing tradition of applied, hands-on/minds-on experiences, which develop the heads, hearts, hands, and health of Alabama youth.
