Hartselle wins home openers in wrestling

Hartselle High School’s varsity wrestlers won back-to-back matches in their home opener  Thursday night.

The Tigers defeated Hayden 45-36 and East Limestone 47-25.

The wins boost their dual record to 6-1.

The varsity and junior varsity teams competed in the Huntsville Invitational Tournament in Huntsville Dec. 6-7.

Logan Smith claimed first place in the 126-pound weight class.

The varsity placed 11th out of 22 teams. Individual wrestlers placing in their weight classes were: Culver Martin (113) and Michael Prince (145), both fifth place; David Dunford (132) and John Holt (220), both fourth place; and Ashton Quattlebaum, (195), third place.

Junior varsity wrestlers finishing among the top five in their weight classes were: Spencer Bray, third place; Marcus Hensley, fifth in the 126-pound class; Austin Pitts, third in the 113-pound class; and Cody Timmons, third in the 195-pound class.
